When a classic style is reinterpreted in a glamorous way a new trend with a vintage taste is born, undoubtedly chic and of great character. This is proposed in Alessandra Marchi’s Autumn/Winter 2019 – 2020 collection. She is the designer of Aniye By, an Italian brand born in Carpi in 2000, and which has since established itself more and more over the years. It has become a very popular brand among Italian fashion addicts including the very famous Chiara Ferragni and actress Ambra Angiolini. The brand’s philosophy is to reinterpret the classic garments which have made costume’s history, in a chic way for a rock woman with a romantic, ironic and irreverent soul. Each garment is the perfect expression of a contemporary reinterpretation (Texas Glam Style) using a combination of different textures such as lace, sequins or coloured prints with graphics, to enliven the outfits.
A few years ago, Alessandra Marchi, whose motto is “style is a well-dressed thought”, founded the company Depeche (inspired by the name of the cult band Depeche Mode) to express her greatest passion through fashion – a Glam Rock style far removed from typical conventions and banalities. In one of her interviews the designer claimed to include Janis Joplin, Jane Birkin and Madonna among her inspiring muses, unconventional female characters who have unknowingly set fashion trends. Just like these musical icons, the testimonials that represent the garments of the collection are nonconformist women who inspire to be original in their own, natural way.
The Style by Aniye By
It is difficult to define the Aniye By style due to it being a collection of materials, prints, patterns, colours and shapes that blend in a fast-paced energy. “Irony and courage represent our philosophy well,” – says Alessandra Marchi – “they reflect my character. We have never been afraid of going against the trend, of taking risks or of being authentic, which for us means believing in our ideas”.
The current Autumn Winter 19/20 collection is a tribute to the ‘Texas Glam’ style, reinterpreting it in a glamorous way where laces and sequins are mixed with seventies influences and animalier elements. The muse for this collection was supermodel and Texan actress Jerry Hall, former wife of Mick Jagger and icon of the Seventies par excellence. The garments are inspired by the golden age of Disco Music with shimmering mini-dresses studded with sequins, to leather Texan ankle boots for a more decontextualised effect and which make the clothes even more glamorous and original! Another important element of the collection is animal prints which are very trendy this season, or garments with an exotic mood featuring designs of tigers, dragons and hibiscus flowers.
The zoo print proves to be a timeless classic even within the collection of the designer who has chosen it as a leading element in spotted clothes (see Mini Dress Lea), eco-fur, trainers, or in graphic details.
From the various proposals in the dress section I have decided to present to you some leitmotive dresses known as the Roller Tiger models, which are available in three different models: close-fitting sheath version, soft flared model with flounce at the bottom, and mini flounce.
My choice for the Texas glam style
My choice was towards the pink mini dress with flounced skirt. Elegant, rock, and romantic, the dress has a tight fit in the bodice with a wide V-neckline that enhances the neckline for those who, like myself, don’t have a very prosperous décolleté. The Japanese character print with tigers and dragons gives the outfit an oriental and gritty look, enhancing femininity with the short skirt. This outfit is ideal for casual outings as it maintains a certain charm but it is also suitable for cocktail party evenings. The important thing with this dress is to personalise it with the right accessories and I will now give you some style tips on how to do just that.
The Shoes
Short dresses and boots usually go hand in hand and so for this dress I opted for high boots in anthracite suede, with a treaded sole and a high heel, making the outfit even more carefree whilst at the same time not penalising elegance too much. Another alternative for an even more casual effect is to combine the dress with square toe Texan boots with a spool heel and a medium upper, this way you will create a 70’s style ‘Texas Glam’ outfit suitable for an informal aperitif with friends. The general rule to combine Texan boots without risking looking like a real cowgirl is to de-contextualise them and then wear them with a very different look.
The Accessories
For the bag, I opted for a black reptile shoulder bag with a snake motif as I liked the idea of combining an animal design accessory from ancient to evocative symbolism, to a print that pays tribute to the queen of the jungle – the tiger! To complete my look I added a medium-height belt that enhances the waistline and, resting on my shoulders, a lacquer-coloured jacket that echoes the colours of the dress’s designs.
The Makeup
The makeup suitable for this kind of outfit is the Smokey Eyes look, using warm shades of brown with a slightly shimmer finish and cloggy eyelashes or thick tufts in typical Style 54 (the famous club in New York in the 70s/80s) loved also by Jerry Hall. Lips must not be loaded with colour so as not to distract attention away from the eyes.
Other Proposals for the Texas glam style
The animalier style is undoubtedly the most extravagant and sensual out there but it is important to wear it in small doses, with ease and class, to avoid falling into bad taste.
If you like the idea of showing off an animalier garment without dressing in a completely spotted print, I suggest you try outfits that only have wild details such as clothing with tiger designs.
In addition to the Aniye By Roller Tiger models, I have selected in the “Buy History” section below other tiger style options present in the current collections for a decidedly biting but refined look.
How will you portray it? I look forward to reading your comments.
